HARARE — The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) is in the advanced stages of constructing its Southern Africa Regional Office, the Afreximbank African Trade Centre Harare (AATC), a major mixed-use development expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
The centre is being built at the corner of Chitepo Avenue and 7th Street in Greenwood Park, central Harare, on a 15,000-square-metre site near the city centre.
According to Afreximbank, the 31,256-square-metre development will comprise a seven-storey corporate office tower, a three-storey conference and exhibition centre, a 10-storey four-star business hotel and a single basement parking level.
The hotel will have 118 rooms, two restaurants and a rooftop infinity pool, while the conference and exhibition centre will accommodate up to 550 guests.
The office tower will house Afreximbank’s corporate offices and provide about 4,478 square metres of Grade A lettable office space across four floors.
The development will also include meeting rooms, a members’ gym and wellness centre, retail kiosks, ATMs and a coffee shop. Afreximbank said the facility is being designed with modern building systems and sustainable design principles and is expected to become one of Harare’s green-certified buildings.
The AATC is intended to serve as a one-stop centre for trade information, facilitation and services.
Afreximbank said the Harare centre will form part of a network of at least eight bank-owned African Trade Centres planned across Africa and the Caribbean.
The bank said the architectural concept draws inspiration from pre-colonial trade and the traditional bazaar, with an internal street, central courtyard and interconnected mixed-use spaces designed to encourage collaboration, networking, innovation and business engagement.
Office space at the development is already being marketed, with prospective tenants invited to submit expressions of interest outlining their space requirements.
Construction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.
The project is being overseen by Afreximbank’s Southern Africa regional office, with the bank’s Regional Director for Southern Africa, Peter Olowononi, issuing the September 23, 2026 notice on the development.
