Room Capacity will rise from 85 to 105, providing additional accommodation for leisure travellers, conference delegates, tour groups and visitors exploring Nyanga.
NYANGA — Three months into a US$2 million refurbishment, Montclair Resort & Conference Hotel is undergoing a major transformation that will expand its accommodation capacity and upgrade facilities at one of Nyanga’s established tourism properties.
The refurbishment began on June 1 and is progressing across guest rooms, public areas and the restaurant as Rainbow Tourism Group (RTG) moves to modernise the resort and strengthen its position in the Eastern Highlands tourism market.
The project will increase the hotel’s room capacity from 85 to 105, providing additional accommodation for leisure travellers, conference delegates, tour groups and visitors exploring Nyanga.

When the refurbishment was launched in June, RTG representative Pride Khumbula said the investment reflected the group’s confidence in the long-term tourism prospects of the Eastern Highlands.
“The Eastern Highlands is one of Zimbabwe’s most spectacular tourism assets and we believe it has immense potential to become the country’s next major tourism destination alongside Victoria Falls,” Khumbula said.
“Through investments such as this refurbishment of Montclair Resort and Conference Hotel, RTG is playing its part in opening up the region, enhancing tourism infrastructure and creating experiences that attract both domestic and international travellers.”
The project comes as Zimbabwe continues to seek greater investment in tourism infrastructure and improved accommodation standards across established destinations.
At Montclair, guest rooms are being fitted with new furnishings, premium finishes and smart televisions, while USB and USB-C charging points are being introduced to meet the needs of modern travellers.

Bathrooms and plumbing systems are also being upgraded, alongside improvements to electrical and heating infrastructure.
Sustainability is another component of the refurbishment. RTG says water-efficient systems being introduced at the property are designed to reduce consumption by up to 30 percent.
The resort is also benefiting from RTG’s Agro Initiative, which supports the production of potatoes, tomatoes, onions, broccoli, carrots, peppers and herbs on site.
The initiative links the hotel’s hospitality operation with agricultural production, providing access to fresh produce while supporting more efficient use of resources.
Montclair’s recent ISO 9001:2015 certification further strengthens the property’s focus on service quality, consistency and continuous improvement.

For Nyanga, the investment could have significance beyond the refurbishment of one hotel. Additional rooms and improved facilities can increase the destination’s capacity to accommodate visitors and events, while potentially generating greater business for tour operators, restaurants, transport providers and attractions in the surrounding area.
Nyanga’s tourism appeal is built around its Eastern Highlands landscape, including mountains, forests, waterfalls and outdoor experiences.
RTG says the Montclair project forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen Zimbabwe’s tourism infrastructure and contribute to positioning the Eastern Highlands as a premier destination.
Three months after work began, the US$2 million project is already reshaping one of Nyanga’s established hospitality properties — reinforcing the destination’s potential as Zimbabwe seeks to broaden its tourism offering beyond its traditional flagship attractions.
