MVURWI, Mashonaland Central — Funeral services and financial assurance group Doves Holdings reaffirmed its commitment to community development and healthy lifestyles after partnering with organisers of the Munhumutapa Half Marathon held at Mvurwi High School on Saturday.
The second edition of the race brought together athletes from across the country in various categories as part of celebrations to mark President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s 84th birthday, while promoting fitness, discipline, unity and community participation.
Doves Holdings was among the key corporate partners supporting the event, reinforcing its commitment to initiatives that promote the wellbeing of communities beyond its traditional business operations.

The prize money for the various categories was sponsored by businessman and philanthropist Sir Wicknell Chivayo, whose contribution enabled outstanding athletes to be recognised and rewarded for their dedication and hard work.
The Guest of Honour, Speaker of Parliament Hon Advocate Jacob Mudenda, commended the organisers, sponsors and athletes for using sport to bring communities together in celebration of the President’s birthday.

Among the dignitaries in attendance were Minister of Youth Empowerment and Vocational Training Hon Tino Machakaire and Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Hon Kazembe Kazembe, who joined Hon Mudenda in presenting prizes to winners across the various categories.
The awards were made possible through sponsorship from businessman and philanthropist Sir Wicknell Chivayo.
The Speaker said sporting activities remained important in promoting healthy lifestyles, discipline and national unity, while appreciating the role played by corporate partners in supporting community initiatives.
Doves Holdings Marketing Officer Ms Sandra Maphosa said the company was proud to be associated with the Munhumutapa Half Marathon and its objectives.
“Doves always leads, and even in athletics we are leading. We are honoured to be part of Munhumutapa,” she said.
The partnership further demonstrated Doves Holdings’ commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to healthier, more active and connected communities.
The company’s participation also received a boost from within its own workforce, with employee Shamuyarira Varaidzo, who represents Avondale Adventist Athletics Club, winning the 21-kilometre Women Masters category.
Varaidzo completed the race in 2 hours, 48 minutes and 55 seconds, securing the top prize and giving Doves Holdings another reason to celebrate its association with the event.
Her achievement underlined the importance of promoting an active lifestyle among employees while demonstrating the sporting talent within the company’s workforce.
The Munhumutapa Half Marathon takes its name from the historic Munhumutapa Empire, reflecting the organisers’ desire to connect sporting activities with Zimbabwe’s rich history and heritage.
President Mnangagwa, who was born on September 15, 1942, turned 84 on Monday, with celebrations being held across the country to mark his birthday.
